Pergolas in Lincoln

Oak and aluminium

Pergolas built on solid footings

A pergola gives a patio a roof line, somewhere to hang lights and shade on hot days. We build them in green oak or powder-coated aluminium, fixed to concrete footings so they stay square.

Green oak frames

Pegged oak joints that weather to a soft silver over time.

Aluminium louvred roofs

Roof blades that tilt open for sun or close against rain.

Fixed on concrete footings

Posts bolted to concrete pads or set in footings, never just stood on the slabs.

Lights and heaters wired in

Festoons, downlights and heaters planned and cabled during the build.

Oak pergolas and gazebos

Green oak is strong, heavy and lasts for decades outdoors without treatment. We cut and peg the joints by hand, so the frame has the look of proper joinery. It starts honey coloured and weathers to silver over a few years.

An oak gazebo with a tiled roof gives you somewhere to sit when it rains, and works well over a hot tub or an outdoor kitchen.

Aluminium louvred pergolas

A louvred pergola has a roof of aluminium blades that tilt. Open them for sun, angle them for shade, or close them flat and the rain runs off through the posts.

The frames are powder coated, so they need no painting, and they suit modern gardens. Side screens, lights and heaters can all be added.

Why Fosse & Fen

What you can count on

Three promises we make to every customer, written into every quote.

A fixed quote, in writing

The price we give you after the 3D design is the price you pay. If we find something underground that nobody could have seen, we stop, show you, and agree any change before we carry on.

A tidy site, every day

We protect your drive and lawn, keep materials stacked in one place and sweep up before we leave each evening.

Owen on every job

Our founder visits every site during the build as well as at the quote. If something needs deciding, you are talking to the person who can decide it.

What our customers say

They dug out the whole back garden and had the patio, lawn and lighting finished in four weeks. The 3D drawing meant there were no surprises. It looks exactly like the drawing.

FAQs

Pergola questions

If your question is not here, call us on 01632 960418.

Ask us a question
Do I need planning permission for a pergola?

Usually not, if it is in the back garden and no more than 2.5 metres high within 2 metres of a boundary. Listed buildings and conservation areas have tighter rules. We check this at the design visit.

Should I choose oak or aluminium?

Oak suits traditional and cottage gardens and changes colour as it ages. Aluminium suits modern homes, needs no upkeep and can have a louvred roof. We show both on your 3D visual.

Will an oak pergola crack?

Green oak opens small surface splits, called shakes, as it dries. They are normal and do not weaken the frame. Many close up again in wet weather.

Can a louvred pergola cope with wind and snow?

The systems we fit are designed for UK weather, open or closed. We fix the posts to concrete footings so the frame stays put.

Can you put a pergola over my existing patio?

Often, yes. We check what is under the slabs. If there is no solid base, we lift a few slabs, pour footings for the posts and relay the paving neatly around them.
