Hard and soft landscaping

The groundwork, walls and planting that hold a garden together

Landscaping is the building part of a garden: clearing and levelling, drainage, walls and raised beds, lawns and planting. Our own team does all of it, whether it is one job or the whole garden.

Clearance and levelling

We clear the old garden, take away the spoil and set new levels so everything else has a sound start.

Drainage

Soakaways, land drains and channel drains where water sits, so lawns and patios stay usable.

Walls and raised beds

Brick, block, sleeper and stone-clad walls and raised beds, built on proper footings.

Planting

Borders and beds planted to suit your soil, your light and how much gardening you want to do.

Walls, beds and level changes

Most gardens need some building before they look right: a retaining wall where the ground drops, raised beds to bring planting closer, or a level lawn where there used to be a slope. We build these on concrete footings and finish them in brick, render, stone cladding, sleepers or porcelain to match the rest of the garden.

Because we plan the levels at the design visit, steps, paths and patios meet the walls neatly, and water has somewhere to go.

Planting that suits the garden

Tom, our planting lead, plans the borders with you: evergreen structure for winter, flowers for colour through the year and plants that suit your soil and how much sun each bed gets. We prepare the beds properly, plant at the right depth and mulch to keep weeds down.

At handover we walk round the garden with you and show you how to look after it, from watering through the first summer to cutting back in autumn.

Why Fosse & Fen

What you can count on

Three promises we make to every customer, written into every quote.

A fixed quote, in writing

The price we give you after the 3D design is the price you pay. If we find something underground that nobody could have seen, we stop, show you, and agree any change before we carry on.

A tidy site, every day

We protect your drive and lawn, keep materials stacked in one place and sweep up before we leave each evening.

Owen on every job

Our founder visits every site during the build as well as at the quote. If something needs deciding, you are talking to the person who can decide it.

Reviews

What our customers say

They dug out the whole back garden and had the patio, lawn and lighting finished in four weeks. The 3D drawing meant there were no surprises. It looks exactly like the drawing.

Owen came out three times during the build to check on things. The lads were polite, started on time every morning and swept the drive every night.

FAQs

Landscaping questions

If your question is not here, call us on 01632 960418.

Ask us a question
What does landscaping include?

Everything that builds the garden: clearing and levelling, drainage, walls and raised beds, paths, lawns and planting. Many customers have us do it all. Others want one part, such as a retaining wall or new borders.

Do I need a full garden design first?

Not always. For a single job, such as raised beds or a new lawn, we can price it from the design visit. For bigger changes, a 3D design helps you see how everything fits before you commit, and it is free.

What happens to the soil and rubble?

We take it away. Skips or grab lorries are included in your fixed quote, and we keep the route through your property clear while we work.

Can you fix a garden that floods?

Usually, yes. We find where the water collects and why, then put in land drains, soakaways or channel drains, and set new levels so water runs away from the house and lawn.

Do you plant as well as build?

Yes. Our own planting lead plans and plants the borders, and we show you how to look after them at handover.
