Patios in Lincoln

Porcelain and natural stone

Patios laid to stay flat and dry

We lay every patio on a full mortar bed with a fall built in, so water runs off and the slabs stay put. You choose the stone. We handle the levels, steps and edging.

Porcelain or natural stone

Frost-proof porcelain in greys, buffs and wood effects, or Indian sandstone and limestone.

Full mortar bed

Every slab is bedded on a full bed of mortar over a compacted base. No dot and dab.

Falls and drainage

A gentle fall away from the house and channel drains where needed, so puddles do not sit.

Steps and raised terraces

Steps, retaining walls and raised terraces with glass balustrades for sloping gardens.

Porcelain: sharp lines, little upkeep

Porcelain does not stain easily, holds its colour and needs little more than a sweep and the odd wash. It suits modern houses and straight lines, but we cut it to curves too, with a contrasting edge to finish it off.

We prime the back of every slab, bed it on full mortar and fill the joints with a pointing compound that weeds struggle to get through. A typical rear patio takes one to two weeks.

Natural stone for older homes and cottage gardens

Indian sandstone and limestone have natural colour changes that sit well next to brick and older stonework. Every slab is a little different, so we dry-lay the patio first and move slabs around until the pattern looks right.

We seal natural stone after laying to help keep it clean. It weathers gently over the years, which is a big part of its appeal.

Why Fosse & Fen

What you can count on

Three promises we make to every customer, written into every quote.

A fixed quote, in writing

The price we give you after the 3D design is the price you pay. If we find something underground that nobody could have seen, we stop, show you, and agree any change before we carry on.

A tidy site, every day

We protect your drive and lawn, keep materials stacked in one place and sweep up before we leave each evening.

Owen on every job

Our founder visits every site during the build as well as at the quote. If something needs deciding, you are talking to the person who can decide it.

FAQs

Patio questions

If your question is not here, call us on 01632 960418.

Ask us a question
Is porcelain or natural stone better for a patio?

Porcelain is harder wearing and easier to keep clean. Natural stone has more variation and suits period houses. Mid-range options cost about the same. We bring samples to the design visit so you can see both in your own garden.

How much does a new patio cost?

Most patios we lay are part of a wider garden project, and our rear garden makeovers run from £8,000 to £60,000. A patio on its own costs less. You get a fixed, itemised quote after the design visit.

Will my patio go green or slippery?

Porcelain resists algae well, and we use slip-rated slabs. Natural stone can go green in shady corners, so we seal it and show you how to clean it. Both stay safer when the falls are right, which is why we build them in.

Can you build a raised patio on a sloping garden?

Yes. We build retaining walls, steps and raised terraces clad in stone or porcelain, with glass or metal balustrades where the height needs one. The 3D visual shows exactly how the levels will work.

How long does a patio take to lay?

Most patios take one to two weeks. Jobs with steps and walls take longer. We confirm the timings in your quote.
