Paving in Lincoln

Paths, edging and steps

Paving that stays level for years

Good paving is mostly about what you cannot see. We dig out to firm ground, lay a compacted base and bed every slab on full mortar, so paths, steps and edges stay put through Lincoln winters.

Proper sub-base

We dig out, lay compacted MOT Type 1 and check the levels before a single slab goes down.

Falls that shed water

A gentle fall on every path and step, so rain runs off rather than sitting in puddles.

Clean edges and borders

Sett, brick or block borders, with kerbs set in concrete so the edges never creep.

Steps and level changes

Steps, landings and retaining edges for sloping gardens, with matching treads and risers.

Paths that lead somewhere

A path decides how you move round a garden. We plan where it goes at the design visit: from the back door to the shed, round the lawn, or out to a seat at the far end. Then we set it out on site and walk it with you before we dig.

We lay paths in porcelain, Indian sandstone, limestone or setts, cut to curves where the design calls for it. The edges are bedded in concrete, so mowing up to them never pushes them out of line.

Steps, edging and the finishing details

Most of the work in good paving is in the details: a step that is the same height as the last one, a border course that lines up with the house, a neat cut round a drain. We take time over those because they are what you notice every day.

Where a garden slopes, we build steps and landings with matching treads, and retaining edges so beds and lawns hold their shape. Everything is pointed with a compound that weeds struggle to get through.

What you can count on

Three promises we make to every customer, written into every quote.

A fixed quote, in writing

The price we give you after the 3D design is the price you pay. If we find something underground that nobody could have seen, we stop, show you, and agree any change before we carry on.

A tidy site, every day

We protect your drive and lawn, keep materials stacked in one place and sweep up before we leave each evening.

Owen on every job

Our founder visits every site during the build as well as at the quote. If something needs deciding, you are talking to the person who can decide it.

Ask us a question
What is the difference between paving and a patio?

A patio is a paved area you sit or eat on, usually by the house. Paving covers everything else: paths, steps, edging and the hard surfaces that link the garden together. We often do both in one project, with matching stone.

Which stone is best for a garden path?

Porcelain is the easiest to keep clean and stays slip-resistant. Indian sandstone and limestone suit older houses and cottage gardens. Setts and blocks work well for curved paths. We bring samples to the design visit.

Will my paths go green or move?

Paths move when the base is weak, so we always dig out and compact a proper sub-base. Shady paths can go green over time. Porcelain resists it best, and we seal natural stone after laying to help.

Can you lay paving on a slope?

Yes. We build steps, landings and retaining edges so the path stays comfortable to walk and the ground either side holds its shape. The 3D visual shows how the levels will work.

How long does paving take?

Most paths and edging jobs take a few days to a week. Larger projects with steps and walls take longer. We confirm the timings in your fixed quote.
